Sample Student Work

My group was assigned Omnivores.

Omnivores

What is an Omnivore?

An omnivore is an organism that eats a variety of food ranging from plants or animals.
Omnivores vary in size from tiny to large creatures. Since it is easier for omnivores to come across food, it is easier for them to adapt to new environments. Omnivores are an important part of the food chain.

An omnivores diet consists of:

Fun Facts about Omnivores
  • Omnivorous animals survive the same way human beings survive.
  • Omnivores have a balanced diet, where they balance their food intake and drink water.
  • Omnivores protect their young.
  • Omnivores are aware of their surrounding environment.

Examples of Omnivores

Humans are omnivores. Human beings eat both plants and animals. A plant can consist of vegetables or fruits. We (people) eat animals such as cooked meat, and dairy products such as milk or eggs.

Chickens are omnivores. Chickens eat seeds and they eat worms.

Other examples include:
  • Bears
  • Apes
  • Monkeys
  • Seagulls
  • Pigs
  • Crows

What is a food chain?

A food chain displays how living things get their food and nutrients. It shows how energy is passed from one living thing to another. Food chains start with plant-life and finish with animal-life. While some animals eat plants, other animals eat animals.

Instructions

Based on your groups from class you will use this blog to create posts on your findings about Carnivores, Herbivores, and Omnivores. In this blog post include the following:
  • State the group you were assigned to research (Carnivore, Herbivore, or Omnivore).
  • Based on your research and prior knowledge define the term Carnivore, Herbivore, or Omnivore.
  • State what your organism eats.
  • Describe the organisms characteristics.
  • Provide at-least 2 examples.
  • List facts you found interesting.
  • State any questions you may have.
  • Find a website that helps our classmates learn more about your organisms role in the ecosystem.

Deadline

This blog entry is due for submission on Monday October 13th. Unless we spoke privately about postponing the deadline.

Tips/ Guidelines for creating a blog:

  • The title of your post should state the organism your group was assigned (Carnivore, Herbivore, or Omnivores)
  • Your blog entry should be checked for spelling, punctuation, or grammar errors. Use the formatting tool bar to present your research and information.
  • Within your blog, you must use visual features and attach links for your classmates to view. Use the media tool bar to insert photographs and links for your blog viewers.
  • When you are finished with your blog entry, make sure you hit save and publish.
